Denture

What Are Dentures?

A denture is simply a removable mouthpiece designed to replace any missing teeth in your mouth. Dentures are inexpensive and help to fill the gaps between your teeth and give you a complete smile and improve your day to day function.

Did you know that you can select the type of material your denture is made out of? We offer a variety of materials from flexible plastic to durable metal. Material selection is often based off several factors such as the number and location of missing teeth. Your dentist will guide you and help you choose what option is the best for you. And if you ever need any extra teeth taken out, we can add any new teeth onto your existing denture instead of making a new one.

How Do I Clean My Denture?

IT is very important to take care of your denture to prevent any damage to the prosthesis or any intraoral infection. Dentures can be cleaned mechanically with a soft toothbrush or washcloth to remove and loose soft debris from the outer or inner surface. They can also be cleaned chemically by soaking them in a gentle cleansing solution overnight.

How Do I Store My Denture?

At the end of the day, remove the denture before bed and clean with a soft toothbrush or washcloth.Leave the denture OUT at night in a cleansing solution. Rinse the denture thoroughly the next morning before use. It is important to not let your denture become very dry as it can lead to damage.

What if I lose more teeth?

A great thing about partial dentures is that if you lose any more teeth in the future, they can very easily be added onto the existing denture without having to make a new one.

What are the steps in making a denture?

It usually takes 3 to 4 appointments to make a complete or partial denture.

There are 2 main types of dentures:

1. Complete Dentures:

Complete dentures are required when a patient is missing all their natural teeth either in their upper, lower or both jaws. The complete denture will help to create a naturally beautiful smile and also allow for more normal chewing function.

At dazzling smiles dental, we also fabricate immediate dentures. As the name suggests. Immediate dentures are placed right after a tooth is extracted ensuring our patients do have to go a moment without teeth.

2. Partial Dentures:

Partial dentures can be used when you have some natural teeth remaining. It will help to replace your missing teeth whilst clipping onto your natural remaining teeth. Most partial dentures are based on a metal framework which is specifically designed for your mouth. The metal framework helps to maximise strength and stability. Partial dentures can also come in flexible plastics or acrylic. Each design has its pros and cons so well want to meet with you to discuss which one best fits your needs.
